Tips to Take Care of Woven Wood Shades

Woven wood shades are one of the popular window treatment formats that add aesthetic and eclectic style to your home or workplace. Various natural materials are woven together with natural yarn to create customized rich texture for living rooms, bedrooms, and office spaces. Regular cleaning and maintenance is important. It keeps the shade clean and adds extra life to it.Here are simple tips to clean your woven wood shades easily.

1. Use a duster

Use a synthetic dust-attracting duster like microfiber cloth on the woven wood shades. Spray the duster with a spray dust repellent and dust across the slats from the top to the bottom. Move to the reverse side of the shades and dust it.

2. Vacuum clean the shades

Regular vacuuming is the best way to remove dust and keep it from building upon the woven wood shades. Use a flat vacuum attachment first on both sides of the shades and then vacuum it with a brush attachment afterward. The brush can loosen the dirt embedded within the weave. Most woven shades only need thorough vacuuming once a week.

3. Damp clean

Plan to damp clean the woven wood shades at least once a month. Never wash the shades in the bathtub, pool, or with a garden hose. Use warm water to dampen a soft cloth and gently clean the shades. Avoid using too much water on the cloth.

4. Spot clean

Woven wood shades can be soiled with liquid or food whether they are placed horizontally or not. It can get soiled by filthy hands or a spilled drink. Clean the shades right away using a moistened soft cloth so it doesn't get sticky or stained.

5. Maintain the hardware

Ensure regular maintenance on the woven wood shades. If the cords, anchors or any other part of the operating system gets worn, replace the parts before the broken part can weaken the rest of the shades. Also, ensure the hanging mechanism is securely placed and fastened.

6.Use Polish

Polishing the wooden slats not just renew its shine but also extends its life. The polish materials including thinner, wax, shellac, drying oil, lacquer, etc. safeguard the wood from pests and rodents. However, it should not be excessively used.
